Children love seeing the white snow fall. The main character, Peter, wakes up in the morning, sees snow piled up, and runs outside. Peter walks here and there, taking footsteps here and there, and sometimes snoops around while older children play. Then he bundles up his eyes, puts them in his pocket, and comes home. What happened to the eyes?

Author: Ezra Jack Keats
1916~1983. He has a reputation as an artist who created his works by listening to the voice of the child within him. Ezra Jack Keats was born in the slums of Brooklyn, USA, to a Jewish family of Polish origin. He was the youngest of his three brothers, and it is said that he was sickly from a young age and spent a lot of time alone, using paintings as companions. He took his first steps as an illustrator after graduating from high school and by chance began drawing illustrations for magazines. After that, he mainly drew illustrations for magazines and books, and in 1962, he began to gain fame as a picture book writer when he published the first picture book, “Snowy Day,” written and illustrated by himself.
He won the Caldecott Award for 『Snowy Day』, and his other representative books include 『Peter's Chair』, 『Whistle』, 『Apartment No. 3』, 『Whistle』, and 『Letters』. He is credited with being the first to feature a black child in a children's book and using bold color collage techniques to vividly express the child's life and psychology.

media book review

Good books selected by Hanuri:

How exciting would it be if the whole world was covered in white snow when you opened your eyes in the morning? Peter quickly runs out, builds a big snowman, and goes on his snow slide. Then he returns home with a bundle of nung in his pocket that he plans to play with tomorrow. This is a picture book that delicately expresses the mystery and emotions that children feel when it snows.

Children's Book Research Group:

One winter morning, Peter wakes up and sees white snow outside the window. Peter plays by making a snowman, making footprints in the snow, and drawing a god in the snow with a wooden stick. The image of a child on a snowy day was expressed through collage techniques, with the black boy Peter as the main character. The mysterious feeling about the eyes is alive and well… .
