Description

Book introduction

Selected book by the National Library Association. Recommended book by the Children's Book Research Association. Stories that everyone knows well and whose ending is never in doubt. But what kind of story will unfold if you change your perspective or question the typical ending? The story of “The Three Little Pigs” teaches the lessons of hard work and loyalty by building a sturdy brick house and repelling the invasion of wolves.
But do we really know the story? A conclusion I have never doubted. The wolf that ate the baby pigs that built their houses out of straw and twigs is bad. Couldn’t that be seen from the pig’s perspective? How would it be different from the wolf's perspective? This picture book clearly shows how different a story can be depending on perspective.

summary :

One day, while I was making a cake for my grandmother's birthday, I ran out of sugar. I had no choice but to go to the neighboring pig's house to pack sugar, but in front of the first little pig's house made of straw, I burst out sneezing due to a severe cold. As a result, the house collapses, and the first little pig is lying dead in the middle of the straw pile. There is an appetizing ham (little pig) in the straw pile, so it seems foolish to just leave, so I have no choice but to eat it. When he went to the second little pig to get sugar again, he started sneezing again in front of the house, and, believe it or not, this house made of tree branches also collapsed. If you leave the food (baby pig) outside, it will spoil, so you have no choice but to eat it again even if you are full. This time, when I went to the third little pig next door, this pig, who lives in a brick house, started swearing at me without even opening the door, and later he even cursed at my grandmother. I was so angry that I tried to break down the door, but the police and reporters came running. Newspaper reporters? The story that a wolf with a cold came to get sugar wouldn't interest readers, so they made up a story about the wolf blowing hard and destroying the house. They turned me into a nasty wolf. This is the real story. I was falsely accused.

Features of the picture:

This book stands out for its ingenious ideas, overflowing sense of playfulness, witty, natural speaking, perfectly calculated composition, and sophisticated shapes and colors of the illustrations. A hamburger with a rabbit's ears, the tip of a mouse's nose and paws visible, the contrast between the "Pig Newspaper" that declares the wolf guilty and the "Wolf Newspaper" that claims the wolf's innocence, the fact that the prison guard in the prison where the wolf is imprisoned is a pig, etc. There are fun things to see hidden in every corner.

Media book review

Children's Book Research Group:

This is a picture book that recreates the well-known story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ with a wolf rather than a pig as the main character. It will be an opportunity for children to reconsider stories they already know well from a different perspective. It also makes you realize that you can think about the book in various ways rather than just accepting it as is.

Donga Ilbo:

Turning the “Happy Ending” fairy tale upside down… Domestic publication of works by American authors.

What would happen if the story “The Three Little Pigs” was rewritten from the wolf’s perspective? What would we find if we continued to trace the story behind a fairy tale that always has a happy ending, such as “So they lived happily ever after?” A parody children's book that answers these questions has been released. American author John Sheska's "The Story of the Three Little Pigs as Told by the Wolf" and "The Frog Prince, The Story Behind It" are popular children's books (Borim Book Publishing).
First of all, “Told by a wolf…” ” (Lane Smith’s painting), the wolf emphasizes that he was only “falsely accused.”
The gist is this. 『Her grandmother was making a cake for her birthday, but ran out of sugar, so she went to her neighbor's pig's house to borrow it. The cold made him sneeze, the house made of straw and branches collapsed, and the little pig died. So he had no choice but to eat it. When she went to visit the third pig, who had built a brick house, she swore at him and became so angry that he tried to destroy the house, but police and newspaper reporters came rushing in. To attract readers' interest, reporters made up the story, "The wolf blew hard and destroyed the house."
