Description

Looking forward to the butterfly effect that solves the global water shortage problem from the perspective of children!
Clear Skies, No More is a simple picture book that explains the world's serious environmental problems. It clearly introduces the reality of water shortage in Sudan, Africa, where wells must be protected even by going to war with neighboring villages.
Unlike the Korean family who use water without thinking, the contrasting lives of the Aryan siblings in Sudan, Africa, who fetch water from puddles across the dusty desert under the blazing sun to get drinking water!
At the same time that Malgeum is brushing his teeth with gurgling water, the Ariane siblings are cooling their bodies, exhausted from fetching water, with giraffe urine.
This is a meaningful book that will serve as a starting point for realizing how serious the water shortage is in the African region across the world and raising interest in global environmental problems. Although it is a creative picture book aimed at lower grades, its depth of thought is by no means shallow.
The story, which began as a TV documentary, enhances the sense of realism, and as you follow the protagonist as his thoughts grow and change, you can meet Malgeum, who has grown into a little environmental activist.
From a child who did not know the importance of water to a wonderful global environmental activist who collects rainwater while worrying about Aryan and his village in Sudan, he is already practicing a sense of community. I highly recommend it, hoping to see more Malgeum in Korea, Asia, and all over the world. (Appendix in the book_Information on Sudan in Africa)
Author review
Late at night, when I couldn't draw well, I was flipping through TV channels and my eyes fell on the screen showing the dry African nature. Africa's water shortage problem... … I was watching without much emotion because I had some knowledge about it, but I was shocked by the situation being much more serious than I thought. So I was completely immersed in it while watching it. Knock. Knock. I heard the sound of water falling.
The image of the main character, Malgeum, rushing to the kitchen and turning off the water is exactly what I was like at that time.
That doesn't mean I'm a huge environmental activist now, but at least I don't waste water thoughtlessly.
Just because we turn off the faucets at home does not mean that Africans will be able to escape from water shortage. However, like my small change, I dream that many parents who read this book and many children will have a pure and warm heart like Malgeum.
Would it be too greedy to hope that this would be an opportunity to recognize that environmental problems are not just you and me, but problems that the entire global community should think about and solve together?
