▣ What kind of city is Seoul, South Korea?
Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, where we live! Located in the westernmost part of the Korean Peninsula, Seoul is the administrative, financial, and cultural heart of the country. Although it represents only 0.6% of the country's land area, it is a vast metropolis, home to over 5 million of its 1 million inhabitants. People have inhabited Seoul since the Neolithic Age, and since then, it has preserved approximately 3 years of history. During the Three Kingdoms Period, Baekje, Goguryeo, and Silla all fought for control of the Han River basin. During the Goryeo Dynasty, its favorable geographic location, which facilitated convenient transportation, earned it the nickname "Namgyeong," meaning "capital of the south." Since the Joseon Dynasty, Seoul has been a centralized capital. A political, economic, and industrial hub since the Joseon Dynasty, Seoul still houses a concentration of important facilities, and Korea's transportation system is centered around Seoul. Following the Korean War, Seoul experienced rapid development, culminating in the devastation of the Korean Peninsula. Despite these challenges, Seoul has overcome them and emerged as a truly international city. Once a small city north of the Han River, Seoul has continued to expand, becoming a massive metropolis centered on the Han River. Hosting the 2 Seoul Olympics and the 1988 Korea-Japan World Cup, Seoul, a global city and "open capital," continues to grow.

▣ Information in the book
"World City Exploration Comic History Knowledge" effectively conveys common sense about the history and culture of cities around the world by inserting information pages related to the story at the end of each chapter. "Seoul Treasure Hunt 2" includes "Seoul at a Glance," which highlights key locations in Seoul using maps, photos, and text, and "Seoul Basics," which covers the administrative districts and major facilities that make up Seoul. Furthermore, "Seoul History Knowledge" explores the history of Seoul, the city that has experienced rapid growth and crises as the center of South Korea. "Seoul Travel Knowledge" provides detailed information on three Seoul tourist attractions: the National Museum of Korea, which houses over 18 artifacts, an amusement park, the Jamsil area, famous for its skyscrapers, and Seoullo 7017, the city's sky garden. "Seoul Current Affairs Knowledge" provides an easy-to-understand explanation of "gentrification," a social issue arising in Seoul's increasingly popular tourist destinations. Furthermore, "Seoul Amusement Park," featuring a crossword puzzle and a picture search, adds to the fun.
