As time passes, books become worn and the colors of the bookshelf fade. However, even if the appearance is worn and faded, the value of the book never becomes old or faded. We call good books that are read over and over again for a long time, generation after generation, 'classics'. “The Giving Tree,” published in 1964, is a representative work that needs no further explanation, and continues to be loved by readers even now, more than 50 years after its publication. “The Giving Tree,” which is considered one of the most impressive books not only for children but also for adults, has been translated into more than 30 languages and has sold more than 2000 million copies worldwide, firmly establishing itself as Shel Silverstein's representative masterpiece. In Korea, it was first introduced in November 11 under an official contract with Sigong Junior, and a revised edition with a new design was published in January 2017 to meet readers again.

▣ Introduction to the work
The only official Korean version of “The Giving Tree” in Korea, reborn!
“The Giving Tree” (original title: The Giving Tree) was first published in the United States in 1964, and the official Korean version was published by Sigong Junior in November 2000. And in January 11, the newly renovated edition was introduced again. The revised edition of The Giving Tree is completely new, starting with the cover. Just as the boy carved his name and the tree's name into the tree trunk, the typography that appears to have been carved with a carving knife reflects the content and atmosphere of the work while providing a stable beauty of balance. In addition, the text was also reorganized with a sophisticated sense, making it a classic of classics that would be good for all generations to read together.
The very book that awakened true love throughout the world!
Shel Silverstein's masterpiece, The Giving Tree, is the story of a tree that gives everything it has to a boy. It contains blind and infinite love that does not expect anything in return. Just as the boy in the work becomes a young man and then an old man, the tree in the work shows consistent love over a period of more than half a century, until the readers who were children grow up to be young people and then become old people. For those of us who are selfish in our harsh reality and try not to let go of anything we have in our hands and instead try to take even more of what others have, trees demonstrate the value of true love in person. And let them know the happiness of giving rather than the joy of receiving.
“Honey, I’m sorry. “I have nothing to give you now.”
“I don’t need much anymore. “I just wish I had a place to sit and relax.”
“The stump of an old tree is the perfect place to sit and rest. Honey, come and sit down. “Sit down and rest.”
The boy did so.
So the tree was happy. _From the text
Fairy tales for both adults and children – deep truth and emotion
“The Giving Tree” is one of the masterpieces that adults can read. In fact, Shel Silverstein did not initially write children's books. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a baseball player, but when he realized that he had no talent for baseball, he began drawing and writing. In the 1950s, he served in the military in Japan and Korea and worked as a cartoonist. The person who encouraged him to write children's books was his friend and famous French illustrator Tommy Ungerer. Thus, Shel Silverstein's best-selling and most successful children's book, The Giving Tree, was born. However, the meaning and emotions contained in the content are by no means limited to children. You can read Shel Silverstein's thoughts in an interview with Publishers Weekly in 1975. “I hope that people, regardless of their age, will find, realize and experience something definable in my books.” It is in a similar context that many readers of The Giving Tree interpret the endlessly devoted love of the tree in various ways, such as the love of God, the love of parents for their children, the love between friends, or the love between neighbors. What is clear is that this work is not just a 'children's fairy tale', but conveys deep truth and emotion to all people, regardless of age or gender.
▣ Contents of the work
The tree has a boy whom it loves. The tree is happy that it can be with the boy it loves every day. But time passes, and as the boy grows older, the tree becomes more often alone. The boy, who came to visit after a long time, keeps asking the tree for something, such as money, a house, a boat, etc. The tree is happy and generously gives the boy everything he needs. One day, many years later, the boy, now a grandfather, comes to visit, and to the tree, which feels sorry for not having anything to give, the boy tells the tree that he just wishes he had a quiet place to rest. The tree gives its stump to the boy.
