Description

I bought a second-hand one.
“Why buy second-hand?”
“Because I don’t have the money to buy a new one. I’m not even sure if I’d have enough money to buy a second-hand one, but you damn guilds won’t accept anyone without a spacesuit.”
You should have saved up to buy a new one.
Such excuses didn't work on Bob Lewis, a former U.S. Marine. More importantly, he was the head instructor of the Extra-Vehicle Guild. Although he had to report to the Guild President, Bob could decide whether a new member passed on his own. And if you didn't become a member, you couldn't go on an extra-vehicle alone, nor could you take tourists out of the premises. That is how the Guild operates. Those bastards.
So what? Did you pass?
Bob snorted. “Are you kidding? Jazz, you failed the test. You’ve definitely failed.”
“Why!” I demanded. “I performed all the required actions, completed all the tasks, and finished the obstacle course within seven minutes. On top of that, when a critical problem occurred, I returned safely to the city without putting my partner in danger.”
Bob opened the locker and put the gloves and helmet inside. “The spacesuit is your responsibility. But it’s broken. That means you failed.”
-p.16 In Artemis, Aldrin is a place where money is made more than anywhere else. There is nothing I can buy in the shopping district. But someday, I will make enough money to be able to live here myself. Anyway, that is the plan. I looked around the place slowly one more time, then turned around and headed toward the customs port.
Aldrin is the bubble closest to the landing strip. Rich people don't really need to go through a slum to experience poverty, do they? So they head straight for the cool area.

“Why do you want to acquire the aluminum company?”
“It’s because I like expanding my business,” Tron answered with exaggerated style. “And it’s my area of expertise, too.”
But aluminum? I mean… isn't that a trivial matter?
It seems like it will be tough since it's manufacturing.
“That’s right,” Tron said. “It’s different from the old days when aluminum was king. You used to need 4 tons of aluminum to build just one bubble. But now that the population is stagnating, we aren’t creating new bubbles anymore. Honestly, if it weren’t for producing rocket fuel using aluminum, we would have gone bankrupt a long time ago. Even that barely generates any profit.”
It seems the days of easy money are long gone. So why are you trying to get your hands on it now?
“Because I think I can make a tremendous amount of money again.”
“How?”
That’s none of your business.

I'm just being honest. The promise not to drag me in even if I get arrested is also part of the deal.
“Why me? Why do you think I can pull this off?”
“Jazz, I’m an entrepreneur. My job is to develop underutilized resources. And you are a resource that is incredibly underutilized.”
Tron stood up, walked over to the display case, and poured another drink. “You could have been anything. You don’t want to be a welder? That’s fine. You could have been a scientist. An engineer, a politician, a successful businessman, anything. But you became Porter.”
I frowned.
“I’m not trying to evaluate you,” Tron said. “I’m just analyzing you. You’re really smart and you want money. I need someone really smart and I have money. Are you interested?”
“Hmm….” I thought for a moment.
Is it even possible?

Suppressed laughter spread among the passengers. It wasn't a funny joke, but the tourists were very amused.
The train departed. It moved with perfect smoothness. There was absolutely no rattling or shaking. (Naturally) it moved using electric motors, and the tracks had not experienced any twisting or warping caused by the rough weather. Furthermore, compared to Earth, the weight exerted on the tracks was not significant.
Round windows ran along both sides of every row of seats. Passengers took turns gazing intently out at the dreary, rocky scenery. Why all the fuss? It was just a pile of gray stones. Who would even care about something like that?
A shabbily dressed woman who looked like she was from the American Midwest giggled while looking out the window, then turned her head to me. “Isn’t it cool?! We’re on the moon!”
“Maalish, ana maarif inglizia (Sorry, I don’t know English).” I said, shrugging my shoulders.
The woman turned to another passenger. “Isn’t it cool? We’re on the moon!”

“Who reported me?”
Rudy shook his head. “No, but I’m always interested in what goes on in this city. You have an EVA suit and you’re a criminal. That seems like enough to start an investigation.”
“I was in my coffin all night. If you don’t believe me, check the Gizmo records. I’ll agree to let you verify it. That way, you can save yourself the trouble of getting permission from Administrator Ngugi.”
“I’ll accept your offer,” he said. “Bob Lewis of the EVA Guild made the same request anyway. He asked for location information on where everyone with an EVA spacesuit was last night. You’ll agree to give him your information, won’t you?”
“Yes. Go ahead. Then the truth will be revealed.”
“The food might just slide,” Rudy said. “But I am the embodiment of suspicion, you see. Just because your Gizmo was in your coffin all night doesn’t mean you were there. Do you have a witness?”
No. Unlike what many people think, I usually sleep alone.
Rudy raised his eyebrows. “Sanchez Aluminum is furious. The Extravehicular Activity Guild is pissed off too.”
It has nothing to do with me.
