Description

Andersen's fairy tale that reminds us of the importance of dreams, courage, and love.

Andersen's fairy tales, which are familiar to both adults and children, are loved by generations and are constantly being read anew. The reason his fairy tales are loved by everyone is because they are based on witty humor, messages of dreams and hope, and Andersen's own life story, which changed despair into hope in a life full of ups and downs. This is also the reason why his fairy tales, which cross the world of fantasy and imagination, convey an eerie, realistic emotion.
Andersen did not limit fairy tales to stories read only to children. From the beginning, he wrote the story with both adults and children in mind. Thus, children fall in love with the story just by reading the work, and adults often take to heart valuable lessons that only those who have lived their lives can empathize with.

There are few writers as widely loved as Andersen. His beautiful and touching fairy tales are loved by both children and adults and are constantly read.
However, some of his fairy tales are known to have completely different endings after being adapted, and therefore, “Andersen,” published by Iseum, was rewritten by popular fairy tale author Lee Mi-ae, keeping the original plot intact. Andersen, the great writer who opened a new chapter in fairy tales.
Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark, the son of a poor shoemaker. His father loved literature and read many story books, including The Arabian Nights, to young Andersen. His father had a great influence on Andersen's later path to literature.
When Andersen's father died of illness when he was 11, his family continued to live a difficult life until they moved to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, in 1819 when he was 14. Andersen knocked on the doors of several theater companies, but was repeatedly rejected, until he was noticed and sponsored by Jonas Colin, an art lover. Then, at the age of 17, he entered school again and began his studies. While attending school, he published a poem titled 『The Dying Child』, which marked the beginning of his path as a writer.
He finally passed the university entrance exam in 1828, and in 1835, he achieved great success with “The Impromptu Poet,” a book about his impressions of a trip to Italy. He continued to publish 『Fairy Tale Collection』 and began to become widely known as a fairy tale writer. In 1835, he published his first fairy tale collection under the title 『Fairy Tales for Children』. His fairy tales made him immortal and are still loved by many people around the world.
