Description

One day, a child suddenly moves to a new place and finds everything unfamiliar and confusing. The child has a new home that is not at all comfortable, and a new school where he does not know anyone. And he has no friends anymore. After wandering around his new neighborhood, lost in his thoughts, the kid finally makes up his mind, stands tall, and begins to sing 'Neville' at the top of his voice. Afterwards, the neighborhood children gathered one by one and called Neville loudly along with the child. Who is the Neville that all the children call so desperately? Could she be a kid from this neighborhood? What does her face look like? All the children are curious about Neville. Who is Neville? And how does a child who moves to a new neighborhood make friends?

A child who moves to an unfamiliar place
How did you make new friends?

Book 19 of Chaekkong’s picture book, “A Very Special Way to Make Friends,” is a picture book that well expresses the feelings of a child who suddenly moves to an unfamiliar neighborhood one day. What are the biggest concerns of a child moving to a new neighborhood, a new house, and a place where they don't know anyone? It's about making new friends. This picture book shows the day of a child who, on his first day moving in, makes friends in a very special way that no one could have imagined.

Moving a new home is a very difficult task for both children and adults. For children, moving means separation from everything they are familiar with. You have to say goodbye to the neighborhood you have lived in, your school, and your close friends. However, what is more difficult than breaking up is how to adapt to the new place you have moved to.
There is a child here. This child moved so far away that it took two days and nights to get there by car. The child did not want to move. The parents said, "You will like it too," but the child's heart is as dark as a new house in a new, gloomy neighborhood without any color.
The child now has to start all over again. You have to live in a new house that isn't comfortable at all, and go to a new school where you don't know anyone. But the biggest headache for your child is having to make new friends.
A mother pushes her child to meet friends in a new neighborhood. But friends aren't something you can easily make just by walking around the neighborhood. Just as the Little Prince and the Fox have to tame each other to become friends, it takes a long time and sincerity to form a relationship called friends.
So how can a child make friends in a new, unfamiliar neighborhood?
The child, who couldn't resist his mother's anger and was wandering around the neighborhood, suddenly stops and calls out 'Neville' in a loud voice. The neighborhood children gather one by one to hear the child's voice for the first time. The kids ask Neville's best friend who Neville is, what she looks like, what she's good at, etc. She then helps Neville's friend and they go together to find Neville. But although she has searched every corner of the neighborhood, Neville is nowhere to be found.
Then the sun set and, unfortunately, it was time for everyone to part ways. The children return home after promising to meet again tomorrow to find Neville, and only then do they wonder what the name of Neville's friend they met for the first time today is. But names may not be important to children. Because they are already friends.
In this way, this picture book tells the story of a very special way for a child who moves to an unfamiliar place to make friends. The simple writing of Norton Juster, author of the Caldecott Award-winning picture book "Hello, Bye-Bye Window," and the illustrations of G. Brian Karas, a children's book author and artist who has won numerous awards, combine to create a wonderful picture book. In particular, the pictures that gradually change from colorless to bright at first depending on the psychology of the main character child will add to the fun of reading the picture book.
