What children discover through discarded crayons!
Children always want to receive attention. There are countless situations, such as when it seems like my mother cares more about my younger sibling than me, when it seems like my teacher likes my partner more than me, when it seems like my friend is having more fun with other friends than me. However, children often neglect to take care of their own things. It may seem natural since they are still at an age where they are not good at anything, but this kind of dual attitude is exactly what children are like.
《Crayon is back!》 is the second story following the previous work 《Crayon is angry!》. In the previous work, the crayons tried to imprint their individuality on Danny, but in this story, “The Crayons Are Back!”, it is a letter containing the crayons’ cheeky cries asking for some attention to be paid to them. Crayons' letters, which are more cheerful than the previous work, add to the fun of reading. One day, the bundle of postcards that arrived to Danny were letters containing crayons that Danny had accidentally thrown away or lost, asking them to take him with them. Just as shown in the previous work, Danny's crayons are truly ingenious. He sent letters from ordinary or unexpected places, such as under the stairs, a left-over sock, a resort hotel, the front door, or Amazon. Danny lost crayons all over his house and in special places. In this way, the crayons sent letters because they were tired of waiting for Danny to come back from the place where they had been abandoned. In the meantime, he talks about how he was and what memories he had with you and me. If you look at these letters carefully, you can find common features although each story is different. They look exactly like children. By pointing out the story of you and me, we emphasize our bond, and in some cases, we show a little bravado by emphasizing that we have been doing well even though we were left alone. These include the story of the glow-in-the-dark crayon that teased Danny and his younger brother, and the story of the fluorescent crayon that traveled to the Amazon. After reading this letter, Danny reflects on himself for not paying attention to the crayons and gathers them in one place. However, the crayons, whose shapes have changed in the meantime, cannot fit into their original boxes, so Danny, worried, builds a new house for them. It is their own home where any crayon can rest comfortably.
● Book content
One day, a bunch of postcards arrive to Danny. It was about the crayons that Danny had lost due to his carelessness or mistake, asking for them to be taken away. A maroon crayon discarded with a broken body on the sofa, a fluorescent red crayon dropped in a hotel swimming pool, a yellow crayon and an orange crayon that fought to become the color of the sun, a dark brown crayon that looked bad after being swallowed by a dog and then vomited up, children. Crayons, each with their own story of being abandoned, sent letters to Danny, including a light green crayon that he hated because it was the same color as a pea he hated, and a luminous crayon that he was scared of after being thrown down the basement stairs. After reading the letter, Danny is really saddened to learn that there are crayons that he has lost, forgotten, destroyed, and did not care about over the years, and gathers them all in one place. However, the crayons were broken and of different shapes, so they did not fit into the crayon box. In the end, Danny provides a home for the crayons where they can rest comfortably.
