The reason his stories resonate so widely is that they are filled with witty humor and messages of hope and dreams, drawing on Andersen's own life story—a life full of hardship that he transformed from despair into hope. This is also why his tales, which move freely between imagination and reality, deliver an emotional impact that feels startlingly real.\n\nAndersen never believed fairy tales were meant only for children. From the very beginning, he wrote his stories with both children and adults in mind as his readers. As a result, children become absorbed in the sheer fun of the stories, while adults find themselves moved by the precious lessons that only those who have truly lived can fully appreciate.\n\nOne Story a Day! Andersen's Greatest Tales in One Volume\n\nBeyond such universally beloved titles as 'The Ugly Duckling,' 'Thumbelina,' 'The Little Mermaid,' and 'The Little Match Girl,' Andersen's collection of over 200 fairy tales is brimming with extraordinary imagination and warm love. This book, Andersen, brings together 27 of his stories in a single volume—including the tales we all know well, as well as carefully selected masterpieces that, though less well known in Korea, are widely recognized for their outstanding literary merit. Read one story a day and discover Andersen's wonderful tales, which awaken the precious values of dreams, courage, and love. These warm stories, filled with laughter and happiness, will nourish children's hearts and emotions.\n\nRetold by Beloved Children's Author Lee Mi-ae, Faithfully Preserving the Charm of the Originals\n\nFew authors are as widely loved as Andersen. His beautiful and moving tales continue to be read and cherished by children and adults alike, across generations. However, many of his stories have been adapted over time, often with endings that differ significantly from the originals. For this reason, Aiseum's edition of Andersen was rewritten by the popular children's author Lee Mi-ae, who worked to faithfully preserve the storylines of the original tales. Readers can enjoy the original charm of these stories, now enriched with the author's distinctive sensibility, reborn as a fairy tale collection perfectly suited to children around the age of entering elementary school.\n\nEnjoy 27 Lovely Fairy Tales, Each Paired with Its Own Unique Artistic Style\n\nAndersen's fairy tales capture readers' hearts with their rich variety—stories of overcoming hardship to reach a happy ending ('The Little Mermaid,' 'The Snow Queen,' 'The Ugly Duckling'), tales bursting with witty humor ('The Princess and the Pea,' 'The Darning Needle,' 'The Proud Apple Branch'), odes to nature ('The Bell,' 'The Rose-Elf'), and clever wit that pokes fun at hypocrisy ('The Emperor's New Clothes'). Each of the 27 stories in this book is paired with artwork in a style suited to its unique atmosphere, so that every single tale delivers the same emotional depth and joy as reading a full picture book.\n\nAndersen: The Great Author Who Opened a New Chapter in Fairy Tales\n\nHans Christian Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark, the son of a poor shoemaker. His father loved literature and read young Andersen many storybooks, including The Arabian Nights. This paternal influence played a major role in Andersen's eventual path toward becoming a writer. When Andersen was 11, his father passed away from illness, and his family endured a difficult life until, in 1819, at the age of 14, they moved to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Andersen knocked on the doors of many theater troupes but was repeatedly turned away, until he caught the attention of Jonas Collin, a patron of the arts, who began supporting him. At 17, he returned to school to study, and during his time there, he published a poem titled 'The Dying Child,' marking the beginning of his career as a writer. In 1828, he finally passed his university entrance examination, and in 1835, he achieved great success with Improvisatoren, a book reflecting on his travels in Italy. He went on to publish Fairy Tales, which brought him wide recognition as a children's author, and in 1835 he released his first collection of fairy tales under the title Fairy Tales Told for Children.
