1. Planning intention
Children read and search many books to study Korean history. However, most Korean history books consist of multiple volumes, and there is so much content that children find it burdensome. Without reading it to the end, people think history is dry, uninteresting, and boring.
《So this is how Korean history came about》 is a book for children who are just beginning to study Korean history. We have selected only the most important history, from ancient history to modern history. It is not organized to list historical events in chronological order or to help you memorize concepts. I wrote about the origins and process of major events in Korean history and their impact on us living today as if telling an old story. We also included a four-chamber comic so that even children who dislike history can read it with interest. Even children who hate reading will become curious and read this book when they see the cartoon.
2. Content introduction
● Read from the Paleolithic era to modern history in one volume
Neighboring countries such as Japan and China say they are distorting our history, but when you ask them in detail what facts they are distorting and why, most of them turn dumb. It's because we don't know our history well.
If you are a child who wants to learn Korean history or a child who finds Korean history books difficult and uninteresting, start studying Korean history with 《So this is how Korean history came to be》. Because the vast contents of Korean history, from the Paleolithic era to modern history, have been condensed into one volume, children can read it without burden.
We have compiled into one volume only the key content that children are curious about and that often appears in exams, such as why many wars occurred in the Han River basin, why Goryeo created the Tripitaka Koreana, and why commoners during the Joseon Dynasty paid money to become nobles.
● Let’s not only learn Korean history but also gain a correct understanding of history.
Although the vast amount of Korean history is condensed into one volume, it is by no means lacking in content or light.
Photos and maps of relics that appear in textbooks, such as fist axes and comb-patterned pottery, are included to help you accurately understand Korean history. In addition, I did not omit any content about modern and contemporary history that was not covered in detail in the textbook. It also included the division of North and South Korea, the establishment of the government of the Republic of Korea, the democratization movement, and candlelight vigils.
It makes us reflect on the lessons of history and how the lives of our ancestors influenced our lives today.
● A four-chamber comic filled with fun history, humor, and satire.
This is not a Korean history book that gives readers a bunch of words and concepts to memorize. “So this is how Korean history came about” explains the origins of historical events as if telling an old story. It is not boring or difficult because the main characters from history tell their stories in the form of short fairy tales.
Additionally, a four-panel comic was placed before each chapter. The characters and events that appear in the text also appear in the comic, adding to the fun of reading. It contains information on Korean history as well as humor and satire, making you laugh just by looking at the cartoon.
● An appendix introducing experiential learning locations
Information on experiential learning of Korean history, from prehistoric sites to modern and contemporary historical sites, is provided as an appendix. The Suyanggae Prehistoric Relics Exhibition Hall, where you can see artifacts from the Paleolithic era, including tangbe stabs, the ancient tombs in Seokchon-dong, Seoul, where tombs from the early Baekje period are located, the site where Goryeo moved its capital to Ganghwa and built a palace to escape the Mongol invasion, and Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol, where King Danjong of Joseon was exiled. Take a hands-on study of Korean history by looking at descriptions, addresses, phone numbers, and photos of major historical sites.
It is necessary to study Korean history by reading and thinking about it, but if you go to historical sites or museums and learn experientially, you can more vividly remember Korean history that you have only seen through text and photos. And interest and interest in Korean history will increase.
