Description

A writer who returns a childhood filled with magic to both children and mothers.
A story as bright as light and warm as sunlight, told by Baek Hee-na

In response to the hungry tadpole younger siblings' bright eyes (?),
The older brother frog is exhausted from catching flies.
The older brother frog couldn't eat a single fly all day.
I fall asleep starving... … .
Have you ever seen such a simple and honest eldest brother?

In a small pond, there is a big brother frog that hatched from its egg earlier than the other tadpoles. The older brother frog takes care of his younger tadpole siblings when the adult frogs go out to work.
But one day, one of the younger tadpoles who was watching the older frog hunt for flies shouted, “Oppa!” I'm not saying that out loud. "I'm hungry!" The older brother frog is momentarily confused by the tadpole's younger brother's natural request. But then he sticks out his long tongue and catches one of his flies and hands it to him. The younger tadpoles who saw this said, “Wow!” as if they had made a promise. Let's cheer. Soon, here and there people were saying, “Brother, me too!”, “Brother, me too!” A sound bursts out.
The older brother frog can't pretend not to see the bright eyes of his tadpole siblings, so he gets tired of swatting flies out of a little bit of pride. Because of this, I can't eat a single fly all day and fall asleep starving... … The next day, I felt energetic again, just like a lie! What on earth happened to Big Brother Frog overnight?

Dreaming of a world where good actions are rewarded with good results.
This story originated from a child whom writer Baek Hee-na met at a children's swimming class. Even though no one asked me to have a child, I was busy taking care of my younger siblings. The child's behavior, which was far removed from the adult belief that 'kids these days only know me', left a deep impression on the author. And “Frogs stick out their tongues to catch flies. “What if her tongue gets stretched out?” After meeting my daughter's innocent question, it became a picture book again.
The author hopes to live in a world where good actions are always rewarded with good results. But reality is not always so fair, so she tries to capture the world she dreams of, even in a picture book. In that world, the wolf grandmother's concern for the homeless moon rabbits brings back the missing moon (Moon Sherbet), a zebra's small kindness becomes a clue to solving the neighbors' problems (Yesterday Evening), and a stray cat treats a chick like its own child. I also take care of him (piyak’s mom). Also, at the center of that world are kind-hearted children. The cat siblings (Gureumbbang) worry about their father who skipped breakfast and went to work, Deokji (Fairy Jangsu-tang) who gives up his only yogurt to an unfamiliar grandmother, and the hungry tadpoles who catch flies so that their tongues can stretch for a few feet for their younger siblings. Even the big brother frog… … .
Authors always prepare little magic in their picture books to make kind-hearted children happy. I hope that the magic goes beyond picture books and makes children living in reality happy, and furthermore, I hope that it will be a small help in protecting the seeds of a good world that children embrace.

A picture book with ‘light’ that brightens and warms our hearts!
“These are all books by one author?” This is a common question asked by those who have encountered Baek Hee-na's picture books for the first time. That's why it's rare for picture books to use the same materials and techniques. When asked why the materials and techniques change for each book, the author's answer remains the same. ‘That material and technique are most suitable for that story.’ Paper dolls were used in 《Moon Sherbet》, where light and shadow were important, plush toys were used in 《Yesterday Evening》, in which the characteristics of each animal had to be vivid, and pencils and pencils were used in 《Peeping Mom》, in which the cat's flexible movements had to be expressed well. Drawings using charcoal are similar to the use of Yuto dolls in 《Jangsutang Fairy》, which wanted to vividly convey the familiar feeling of the body.
In 《The Dung Fly I Tasted in a Dream》, the author attempted something new again. The technique used was to lightly color tracing paper with colored pencil, cut out the characters as they appear and the background as they appear, and then stack them on a light box and film them. This is because we decided that there is no technique more suitable for delicately capturing the colors of the pond that change every moment from morning to midnight to the next morning. It also represents the older brother frog, whose entire body is still as tender as a bud, or the tadpole younger brothers and aquatic plants that are always half-submerged in water. This technique was also effective in realistically expressing the flashy(?) tongue flick of the older brother frog or the mournful(?) flapping of the fly.
However, the biggest effect this technique gives is the 'light' that seems to emanate from the inside of the screen. This light brightens and warms our hearts, just like the simplicity and honesty of the older brother frog. We hope that this light will penetrate deep into the hearts of our children and spread into a brighter and warmer light.
