"no! I will not! I will do it! “I don’t know much about you!”
Is there any mother who hasn't heard this while raising a child? She wonders what she doesn't like, why she won't do it, what she can do. In her mother's eyes, it's just the complaints of a stubborn child. The age when the child who was so adorable and angelic that it didn't hurt to put her in her eyes suddenly starts pouting at her mother's words like an adolescent rebel, burning out her sorrow! She is just seven years old. As the saying goes, ‘Ugly seven years old!’ Is that really true?
■ The days when we lost our self-esteem
Received a gift from my seven-year-old daughter!
This book first started with my second daughter. From a very young age, she always watched and listened to her picture books. The child came across the word 'true' in one of the books and fell in love with the word. From then on, she used to make people laugh by adding the word 'real' wherever she went. For example, someone asks, “Have you eaten breakfast?” The child responds, “I did, but I haven’t had a real breakfast yet.” The child’s idea of a ‘real breakfast’ is soup, at least one piece of grilled fish, and kimchi. It is a proper meal complete with seaweed. Even when a child is upset about her family, she says, “I don’t think my family is a real family.”
One day, I thought to myself as I was looking through the notebook where I had scribbled down what my child had said. What happens if you combine the word 'true' that a child loves with the age of excessive self-consciousness, seven? Then, a series of interesting thoughts followed. While I was at it, I asked the seven-year-olds around me. What age is a ‘true seven-year-old’? ‘The age when you go fishing with your dad,’ ‘The age when you know that adults make mistakes, too,’ ‘The age when you don’t change your shoes.’ ‘The age at which kimchi is no longer sucked in water’… . Realistic and interesting answers followed. This is how [True Seven Years Old] was created.
In this world, there are as many sevens as the stars in the sky and the flowers in the field.
But there aren't that many true seven-year-olds.
■ Is it okay for a true seven-year-old to be this cool?
The best picture book that will make both mother and child laugh!
It's too easy to say 'the ugly seven year old', but in reality, it's probably an expression of the bewilderment and wonder felt at a child who is beginning to fully feel, express, and assert his or her own existence. The ultimate in wonder is [True Seven Years Old]. A child full of self-esteem who says that if he was born on this earth and lived for seven years, he should be able to easily handle these tasks. There is no doubt or fearful cowardice.
They say that losing a front tooth is not something to be ashamed of, but that it is something that a seven-year-old should do, that not running away from a doctor is true courage, and that a true seven-year-old should understand that it is the mistake of adults instead of crying bitterly when he does not receive a gift he wanted.
As I read each page, I can't help but laugh and admire the thought that seven years old was such a wonderful age, and that all the actions that seemed like rebellion and stubbornness just a little while ago might actually be the children's serious struggle to grow up as independent individuals.
What is a real breakfast? What should a real family be like?
One day, I received a treasure of life from my seven-year-old daughter who was wandering around looking for the true meaning of the word 'true'. Perhaps we, too, live to become true beings no matter how old we are, so reading it with our children fills us with moving laughter.
A book that children who visit the library especially like.
Every time you say a word, you empathize and react with your whole body.
It's a fun book to read from time to time.

■ Shout out the truth! I have a lot of self-esteem hidden inside me!!
[True Seven Year Old] was published in 2011 and has continued to receive love from children and adults.
As author Heo Eun-mi said, [True Seven Year Old] was born from careful observation and extraordinary empathy for a child's actions and words. She elicits deep emotion and empathy because the heart of a mother who loves her child came before the heart of a writer. Artist Oh Jeong-taek's paintings also make you laugh while reading this book. The child is seriously talking about calming down, but her exaggerated facial expressions and situations show her child's feelings even more earnestly, giving her a comical moment.
These days, the term self-esteem is used a lot by both adults and children. To increase self-esteem, I seek out a lot of information and try to put it into practice. But is it possible to develop true self-esteem through learning alone?
[A true seven-year-old] who makes you laugh lightly and think about the heavy existence of life. Let’s read it out loud, one sentence at a time! Every time I shout out “true,” I feel that seven is not an obnoxious and hateful age, but rather a wonderful age full of wild imagination and curiosity about the world.
are you okay!
Unless you are truly seven years old
Once you are truly eight years old,
Unless you are truly eight years old
All you have to do is turn nine,
Unless you are truly nine years old
When you really turn ten... .
