Description: The Moment You Find a Little Leaf, a Wonderful World of Imagination Unfolds Before Your Eyes Have you ever watched a leaf dangling from a branch on a windy day, finally letting go and falling to the ground? Have you ever gathered fallen leaves with friends on the day the green leaves turned red? Almost everyone has, at some point, picked up a leaf found along the road with a teacher or parent, dried it carefully, and pressed it between the pages of a favorite book. On the day you picked up a little leaf, what did you do with it? In If You Find a Leaf, a young girl discovers a leaf in the forest and lets her imagination run wild. The leaf becomes a hat on a cold day, a parachute that leads her to find even more leaves, and a spooky-eyed Halloween mask. It becomes a sailboat crossing the sea, and a hammock where she can lie back and listen to the sound of the wind. All it takes is picking up a leaf, and anyone can create a world of their own. Though leaves are always around us, we often don't notice them until we stop and look closely — and this small leaf leads us into a vast world of imagination we've never explored before. An Adventure That Brings Color and Joy to an Ordinary Day Let's follow along on the girl's adventure, which turns an ordinary day into something joyful and colorful. She transforms an elm leaf into a sailboat to cross the great sea, turns a honey locust leaf into a hammock to drift on a gentle breeze, and imagines a linden leaf as a hot air balloon floating high above the trees. Just like her, her friends use their own imaginations to build new worlds and fill their days with color and adventure. Children are collectors with curious eyes, noticing the smallest details in everyday life that adults often overlook. They are also adventurers who find comfort and connection through treasured gifts from nature, filling their hearts with courage instead of fear as they stride boldly forward. Children grow, much like the seasons that change into different colors, blossoming somewhere within the everyday. They travel to the sea, climb high and rugged mountains, and grow bit by bit as they take on new challenges. In this book, you'll find the shining adventures within children's everyday lives. Collage-Style Landscapes Capturing the Beauty of Nature Through the Changing Seasons Author and illustrator Aimee Sicuro is a master at creating striking new imagery using watercolor, ink, and charcoal pencil. In If You Find a Leaf, she gathers the very leaves we've all grown up seeing around us, breathing life not only into the illustrations but into the story itself. Using glycerin to preserve the leaves for a long time, she pressed them directly onto white paper and then painted around them with watercolor, ink, and charcoal pencil to create beautiful natural scenes. By breaking free from the constraints of traditional illustration and creating a new kind of creative space, the book helps children understand diverse forms of artistic expression and develop their aesthetic sensibility through hands-on experience with texture and material. The unique artistic technique, paired with heartfelt, lingering text, nurtures both artistic sensitivity and literary emotion. The front and back endpapers introduce leaves that can only be seen in autumn, sparking children's curiosity. At the very end of the book, you'll find tips for preserving leaves for a long time and a variety of ways to play with them — because all it takes is picking up a leaf, and anyone can create a world of their own.
