After graduating from the Faculty of Education at Waseda University, she worked at a publishing company. She received the Shogakukan Literary Award and the Noma Children's Literature Award for Kiki's Delivery Service. Her other works include I'm Going to Work, Where Is My Treasure?, and Kiki's Delivery Service, among many others. Illustrator Darui Samako was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1952. After graduating from Tama Art University, she worked at a design company for five years. She has since devoted herself to illustrating picture books as a freelancer. Her works include the Detective Camera series and A Gift from the Little Mischievous Witch.
