Story: During summer vacation, Pierre, bored at his country house, goes to visit the house of Mr. Magritte, the neighborhood painter his dad calls "a bit of an odd fellow." As it happens, Mr. Magritte's friend Salvador Dalí is visiting too, and Pierre spends the evening with them. He watches Mr. Magritte paint, takes a walk in the woods behind the house, plays games, and has dinner… But something seems strange. Mr. Magritte looks at a bird's egg but somehow paints a bird instead, and the familiar walking path feels oddly unfamiliar. Cats and dogs fall from the sky like rain. At the dinner table set by Mrs. Georgette, flowers are arranged in rain boots, and her specialty dishes—flying fish soup and partridge pie—have actual flying fish and partridges leaping out of them! He has worked across fine art, magazine covers, advertising, and illustration. In 1994, he received a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators. His works include The Mysterious Mansion, Circus Girl, The Mouse Before Christmas, and Angel Cat. He currently lives with his wife and three children on Paterson Hill in New York, where he continues to write and illustrate picture books for children. Translated by Lee Kyung-hye, who graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies with a degree in French Education. She began her career in 1987 with the publication of the children's story "The Cross-Eyed Horse," and has since worked writing and translating books for children. Her works include The Nine-Headed Serpent's New Scholar and The Last Bat Princess Migaya, and her translations include My Beloved Bbu-Bbu, I'm Not Afraid, and The Little Art Museum.
