From a child who didn't understand the value of water to one who worries about Arian and his village and collects rainwater, Malgeum-i becomes a wonderful global environmentalist practicing a sense of community. We highly recommend this book, hoping that more children like Malgeum-i will emerge across Korea, Asia, and the whole world. (Book Appendix: Information about Sudan, Africa) Author's Note One late night when my drawing wasn't going well, I was flipping through TV channels and my eyes landed on a scene of the parched African landscape. Africa's water shortage... I thought I already knew something about it, so I watched without much reaction at first. But I was shocked to see the situation was far more serious than I had imagined. Completely absorbed in the program, I suddenly heard the sound of water dripping—drip, drip, drip. I rushed to the kitchen to turn off the faucet, and that scene became the moment that inspired the character Malgeum-i in this book. That doesn't mean I've become some great environmental activist, but at the very least, I no longer waste water thoughtlessly. Turning off our faucet properly won't immediately free people in Africa from water scarcity. But just as my small change came about, I hope that the many parents and children who read this book might come to share the same pure and warm heart as Malgeum-i. Is it too much to hope that this book becomes an opportunity to recognize that environmental problems are never just "your problem" or "my problem," but something the whole world must think about and solve together?
