Description: This is the story of what happens after Snow White leaves with the prince she loves. It explores the questions: Did Snow White really live happily ever after? Did the seven dwarfs miss her?
When Snow White departs for the castle with the prince, the seven dwarfs left behind face a very serious problem — they must now handle all the household tasks Snow White used to do on her own. With no one to keep house, the home fills up with trash, and there aren't even any clean plates to eat from. Emma the squirrel, who lives next door, advises them that since a week has seven days and there are seven dwarfs, each dwarf should take a turn being in charge of housework each day. Once they set up a rotation, the dwarfs are able to keep their home tidy.
Then one day, Nisse, one of the seven dwarfs, announces that he wants to go to Sweden. The remaining six dwarfs protest — no book has ever featured only six dwarfs, and they insist they must always be seven — but their pleas are useless. In the end, the six dwarfs join forces and manage to bring Nisse back home.
Afterward, the dwarfs continue to work together: they rescue Gregor, who was turned into bamboo by a witch's spell while gathering herbs in the mountains, restoring him to his original form, and they team up with the giant Mückenschnapp to chase the witch out of the forest. Through these adventures, the seven dwarfs build the strength to solve problems together and finally succeed in standing on their own.
Just as the dwarfs begin to find their footing, Snow White sends them a letter. In it, she reveals that the prince's love has already cooled, and that she wishes to live with the seven dwarfs again. The dwarfs now make a plan to help the princess.
Author Hubert Schirneck, who loves to travel, says that he once met the seven dwarfs on a journey and was given their blessing: 'You seem like a kind person, so you may write a book about us seven dwarfs.' That's how he came to write and publish 'Was Snow White Really Happy?' This book is also Schirneck's very first children's book.
