Description "Even if it's a little old and worn, the memories inside it are precious!" A story for our children who easily grow tired of their toys and belongings. Wanting something new, something trendy, is a feeling shared by children and adults alike. But even new things eventually lose their shine. The joy of having something "of my own" for the first time, and the curiosity that comes with something "new," spark our interest—but as time passes and we become fully familiar with the object, that interest naturally fades. Geurin follows her mom around all day long, begging for a new top (spinning toy). She tries everything to win her mom's heart—acting cute like a celebrity, throwing tantrums, even getting angry. Even though there are more than six tops in her toy box, to Geurin's eyes they all look old and shabby. For a child like Geurin, getting a new car was nothing but exciting. But when Dad starts telling her about all the moments their family shared with Mungchi (their old car), Geurin suddenly feels strangely sad. In the end, on the way back from one last trip with Mungchi as a family, Geurin bursts into tears, shouting, "I don't want a new car! I want to stay with Mungchi! Dad, don't buy a new car!" Afterward, Geurin looks through the old tops in her toy box again, remembering the memories tied to each one. Reflecting on the time she spent with Mungchi, Geurin comes to realize that even things that look old and worn can hold precious, unforgettable memories worth keeping close to her heart. As you read this book with your children, try asking whether your family has ever had a "Mungchi" of your own, and share your own happy memories together. Warm Moments with Mungchi, Always There Through Joy and Hardship On the way home from admiring the shiny, wonderful new car, Dad reminisces about their memories with Mungchi. "When Mireu and Geurin were born, this old car brought you both home from the hospital. When it first came to us, Dad was so happy that he even gave it a name—'Mungchi.' We've grown so attached to our Mungchi, it's hard to say goodbye." As the family recalls their time with Mungchi, smiles spread across their faces, laughter bursts out, quiet thoughtfulness settles in, and sometimes their noses tingle with emotion. The Tenth Book in Geurin's Rollercoaster Growth Story "The Day We Bought a New Car" tells the story of Geurin's family saying goodbye to their old car, which had been with them through every joy and hardship. We often forget the value of the things closest to us. For Geurin, it was an old top and Mungchi—but for other readers, it might be a toy, a piece of clothing, or even a beloved pet. These things are never just "things"—at one point, they mattered to us as much as family or friends. Yet as time passes, for various reasons, we sometimes have to part with the things we treasure. Before sending Mungchi off, Geurin and Dad clean it thoroughly, fix any worn spots, and fill up the tank so it won't go hungry. Through this process, Geurin comes to naturally accept her farewell to old Mungchi, and in doing so, her heart grows just a little. Now Geurin isn't sad anymore—because she knows Mungchi will run happily again in a new place, with a new family. A Real Story of Growth for Real Kids and Real Families!
