Description: The number of overseas Koreans worldwide has steadily increased, now surpassing 7.4 million. In order for overseas Koreans everywhere to live with a healthy sense of identity and pride, Korean language education tailored to their unique circumstances is essential. In particular, since language development patterns vary by age, it is necessary to provide Korean language education appropriate to each age group. Building on its previous achievements in developing customized textbooks, the National Institute of Korean Language has pursued the development of Korean language educational materials for preschool-aged overseas Korean children (ages 3-6). In 2017, foundational research and needs assessments were conducted, followed by field testing and feedback collection in 2018. The development team included experts in Korean language education, early childhood education, and overseas Korean education. As a result, the 'Fun Korean for Children Around the World' series was published, consisting of 6 activity books for children, 2 teacher's guides, 1 Hangeul activity book, and 1 large picture book. These educational materials are designed to be easy and convenient for overseas Korean children, teachers, and parents alike to use. Children can enjoyably learn Korean through a wide range of learning content; teachers can flexibly use various activity sheets according to their educational goals; and parents can naturally continue using the Korean learned at school at home through family-connected activities. In particular, these materials were developed to enhance children's bilingual abilities and cultivate a healthy sense of linguistic and cultural identity. To this end, they are rich with content about the Korean language and culture, and great effort was made to showcase diverse aspects of language and culture. We hope that through 'Fun Korean for Children Around the World,' many overseas Korean children will enjoy learning Korean with excitement.
