Description: The number of overseas Koreans worldwide has been steadily increasing and has now surpassed 7.4 million. In order for overseas Koreans everywhere to live with a healthy sense of identity and pride, Korean language education tailored to their unique circumstances is essential. In particular, since language development patterns vary by age, it is necessary to provide Korean language education suited to each age group. Building on its previous achievements in developing customized textbooks, the National Institute of Korean Language has been working to develop Korean language educational materials for preschool-age overseas Korean children (ages 3-6). In 2017, foundational research and needs assessments were conducted, and in 2018, the materials were field-tested and feedback was gathered. The development team included experts in Korean language education, early childhood education, and overseas Korean education. As a result, the series 'Fun Korean for Young Children Around the World' was published, consisting of 6 activity books for children, 2 teacher's guides, 1 Hangeul play book, and 1 big picture book. These educational materials are designed to be easy and convenient for overseas Korean children, teachers, and parents alike to use. Children can enjoy learning Korean through a wide range of content, teachers can flexibly use the various activity sheets according to their educational goals, and parents can naturally continue the Korean learned at school at home through connected home activities. In particular, these materials were developed to enhance children's bilingual abilities and foster a healthy sense of linguistic and cultural identity. To this end, they are rich in content about the Korean language and culture, and great effort was made to showcase the diverse aspects of language and culture. We hope that through 'Fun Korean for Young Children Around the World,' many overseas Korean children will joyfully learn Korean.
