Description: This is a new edition of the picture book first created in 1930, featuring fresh illustrations by artist Loren Long. With bright, distinctive characters tailored to modern children's sensibilities and dynamic, three-dimensional scenes that maximize perspective, the book brings an animated, cinematic energy to the story.
A little train chugs along, carrying toys and treats for children living on the other side of the mountain. But suddenly, the train comes to a stop and no matter how hard it tries, it just can't move. A shiny passenger engine passes by, followed by a powerful freight engine, and then an old, worn-out engine — but each one pretends not to notice and passes on by.
Then, a small blue engine comes along. Though she has never crossed a mountain before, the little engine decides to carry the load over the mountain for the children's sake. When she finally reaches the top, she races down through the valley toward the village, shouting, "I knew I could. I knew I could."
