Description Should I say hello, or not? The same inner conflict children and adults both share. A fox family has just moved in next door to Mr. Wolf. When Mr. Wolf and the fox lock eyes, neither manages to offer a first greeting — instead, they both pretend not to notice and turn away. Mr. Wolf overslept because of a broken clock, and the fox had been scolded by his mother that morning, so neither was in the best mood. 'I'll definitely say hello next time,' each promises themselves, but every time the moment comes, they hesitate and let the chance slip by. They regret not stopping to greet each other, but then think, 'I'll surely see them again,' and simply walk on. Then one day, the fox spots Mr. Wolf walking toward him from far away. Determined to say hello today, he gathers his courage and greets Mr. Wolf first. But just as the fox bows politely, someone suddenly dashes out in front of him — it's Mr. Lion, who, delighted to see Mr. Wolf after so long, rushes over to greet him first. Mr. Wolf never even notices the fox, but the fox misunderstands, thinking Mr. Wolf ignored him on purpose. Unaware of the fox's hurt feelings, Mr. Wolf runs into him again a few days later in the neighborhood and greets him warmly. Having just come out of the bakery, he even picks out some bread he thinks the fox will like and offers it as a gesture of goodwill. But the fox, still sulking, walks right past without even a glance. Mr. Wolf, in turn, finds the fox's behavior utterly baffling and unfair. As the misunderstanding between them grows, so does the discomfort between the two. Should he just go ahead and say hello now? But saying hello first feels like losing somehow, and saying hello now would feel too strange after all this time... So the two of them just keep watching each other out of the corners of their eyes. Who will win this tense, silent staring game? Hello: The First Step to Breaking Down Walls in Our Hearts Greeting one another is the foundation of social life. A cheerful hello can often melt away tension and wariness between people. And yet, for both children and adults, it isn't always easy to be the one to say hello first. Even a simple 'Hello' or 'Hi' takes more courage than we might expect. Most of us have hesitated over whether to say hello — running into a neighbor in the apartment elevator, leaving the corner store after checking out, or bumping into a new classmate for the first time. Sometimes it feels awkward, sometimes we're a little shy, and sometimes the other person is still unfamiliar, so the words just won't come out. At other times, we hesitate out of worry that our greeting might not be returned. We look away, pretend not to notice, hurry past — and then regret it, again and again. It's remarkable how such a small thing as saying hello can trip us up so much. Both Mr. Wolf and the fox struggle to say that one short phrase. 'Ah, well, I'll just say hello next time,' they each think — but after passing each other by once, twice, they eventually find themselves avoiding one another entirely, even though they live right next door. When we fail to get things right from the very start, everything that follows only becomes harder. Pretending not to notice someone in front of us might spare us an awkward moment right now, but the discomfort quietly building up inside can make things even more difficult later on. After all their careful sidelong glances and hesitation, Mr. Wolf and the fox finally cross paths again at a crosswalk. Catching sight of that now-familiar face, they blurt out a greeting almost without thinking — and for the first time, they look at each other and smile warmly. It's a moment that makes their long, tense staring game seem almost silly in hindsight. A greeting, they say, is the first step our hearts take toward someone else. Every first step requires courage. But once we push past our hesitation and fear to take that first step, growing a little closer to one another isn't so hard after all. With the fresh, dynamic feel of a flash animation, Hello stands out for its rhythmic scene composition and clever, surprising dialogue that keeps readers engaged and curious right up to the end. The red fox and the blue wolf, drawn with bold black pen lines against their backgrounds, seem to push and pull against one another in a way that makes readers feel as though they're watching a playful animated short. By placing children and adults on equal footing, the book explores good manners not as rules imposed one-sidedly on children, but as...
