Ed Young, the author of "Seven Blind Mice," is a world-renowned picture book artist who won the Caldecott Medal in 1990 for "Lon Po Po" and later received Caldecott Honor awards for both "Seven Blind Mice" and "The Emperor and the Kite." He often draws inspiration from folktales, fables, and myths from around the world, striving to convey simple yet important truths to the world and its people. This book is based on an Indian folktale in which blind mice, unable to see, each form their own comical judgments about the things they touch. In the story, a group of blind mice discover something by a pond and argue over what it might be, each mouse touching only one part of the mysterious object. Finally, the white mouse, who carefully examines the entire creature, discovers that it is an elephant. Through this story, the author conveys a profound truth: while knowing only a part of something might let us pretend to understand it, true wisdom comes only from seeing the whole.
