Description: Mr. Goat, who has never read a single book in his life, suddenly becomes rich in books! One day, out of nowhere, a box packed full of books is delivered to his doorstep. It's a gift left behind by his late Aunt Betty. Mr. Goat, who has never once read a book, falls into deep thought. While wondering what he could possibly do with so many books, he remembers something Aunt Betty once told him: "Being close to books makes your imagination bubble up endlessly!" Scratching his head, Mr. Goat wonders—could that really be true? As time passes, Mr. Goat comes to realize that books are helping him solve all sorts of big and small problems in his daily life. What kinds of problems does Mr. Goat solve with books, and how does he do it? "What can I do with all these books?" A picture book that goes beyond reading to imagine all the fun and creative things you can do with books. Mr. Goat uses every bit of imagination he can muster when it comes to books. Stacking up thick books with lots of pages and sturdy covers makes a comfortable chair. Using wide, thin books as a step stool lets him easily reach things on high shelves. When someone he'd rather not see comes to visit, he builds a colorful wall of books to hide behind—a secret hideout. And that's not all! On sweltering summer days, he pulls out a slim, thin book and waves it like a fan, cooling himself off just as well as an electric fan. When taking a lazy nap in a hammock, he uses a wide, horizontal book to shade his eyes from the sun. When cold winter winds blow, he stacks up small, palm-sized books by the window—and no matter how fierce the cold, he stays snug and unshaken. Why don't you try pulling some books off your own shelf and spreading them out on the floor? Every book looks a little different depending on its story, its subject, and its genre. Some books are long and narrow like a rice cake, others need to be unfolded lengthwise like a train to see everything inside. Some books are as thick and hard as a wooden pillow, too heavy to hold open with two hands. Some books have only pictures, while others are packed with nothing but text. Before opening a book and stepping into the world within, haven't you ever looked at a book's cover in a bookstore and wondered what story might be hidden inside? What kind of world might unfold? Just like people, books come in all shapes, colors, and page counts, depending on their message and their personality. This book invites us to go beyond simply reading, using the fun and imaginative things you can do with books to cross the boundary between reality and fantasy. Through this experience, we open the door to imagination every single day. A true declaration of love for books and reading, and a magical story that opens the door to imagination—how can a single book change our world? Mr. Goat, who has never read a book in his life, experiences books themselves through the power of imagination and creative thinking. Then, one day, Mr. Mouse, who has just moved in next door, teaches Mr. Goat his letters and how to read. How will Mr. Goat's world change once he can finally read? Mr. Goat's books are more than just stories—they become an important tool that opens up boundless imaginative space for readers. In this story, books are not simply things to be read, but keys that unlock the door to a new world. Mr. Goat comes to realize just how much he can do with what's contained in a book. Reading lets us come face to face with feelings we cannot see. Sometimes we laugh out loud with delight, sometimes we fall into deep thought, and sometimes we find ourselves shedding tears without even realizing it. Books can comfort us, gently pat us on the back, and offer answers when we need to make a choice. They can feel like a friend, or like magic. On every page, a new world unfolds for the reader to discover.
