Little Picture Book House Series, Volume 32. This picture book follows a baby slowly walking to find its mother, showing—from the baby's perspective rather than the mother's—just how much waiting goes into the arrival of a single life. It captures both a mother's heart as she waits for her baby and a baby's heart as it waits for its mother, all rendered in adorable illustrations and warm colors. As the pages open, a baby who has just finished getting ready to enter the world toddles along searching for its mother. Along the way, the baby meets a baby bear, a baby gorilla, and a baby pig, and asks each one, "Do you know where my mommy is?" Each one gives the same answer: "I don't know where your mommy is, but mine is right there." And each one is scooped up into their own mother's warm embrace, hearing the same sweet words: "Thank you for being born." Longing to be held close, to be kissed, and to nurse at its mother's breast, the baby keeps walking to find her. On a night when even the baby owls are tucked beneath their mother's wings, a warm light slowly approaches the lonely, wandering baby and gently wraps around it. Now the baby becomes light and enters its mother's womb. On a quiet, wonderful night, the baby draws near to its mother, listening to the steady thump of her heartbeat and feeling her warm breath. Held in her arms at last, the baby hears the precious words that bind their hearts together: "Thank you for being born as my daughter! Thank you for being born as my son!" The words the baby had longed to hear more than any other. "Thank you for being born as my daughter! Thank you for being born as my son!" — the words we want to say to our children, and the words our children long to hear from us. 'What will our baby look like?' Every mother waits for the day she'll meet her baby, her heart full of anticipation. As she prepares blankets, socks, and baby clothes one by one, she likely repeats to herself, "Thank you for coming to us," again and again. Just like the mother, the baby waits a full ten months to meet her, listening to her mother's voice from within the darkness of the womb. Mother and baby—so close to one another, yet unable to see each other's faces. In that shared time of waiting, a bond deepens that is a love only a mother and baby can know. And yet, many mothers say that once the baby is finally born, amid the busyness of feeding, dressing, bathing, and putting the baby to sleep, there's one thing they sometimes forget to do: to put into words just how precious their wriggling little baby is to them. Having repeated these words silently in their minds countless times over the ten months of waiting, mothers may find them feel strange or unfamiliar to actually say aloud. But remembering that these are the very words the baby longed to hear while waiting for its mother may make it easier for mothers to find the courage to say them. "Thank You for Being Born" captures both a mother's heart as she waits for her baby and a baby's heart as it waits for its mother, in adorable illustrations and warm colors.
