About: Born in 1926 in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, he graduated from the Department of Physics at the University of Tokyo and completed his graduate studies there. He later studied at the University of Rochester and conducted research at the University of Chicago before returning to Japan to become a professor at the Faculty of Science, University of Tokyo. In 2001, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the detection of cosmic neutrinos. Through his observation of the elementary particle known as the neutrino, he pioneered the field of 'neutrino astronomy,' helping to unravel the mysteries of supernovae and the sun.
