Description
Living life to the fullest until the end is enough. Many people say this to poet Na Tae-joo. "Life is so hard. It’s painful just to get through each day. How should I live?" The poet answers without hesitation. "No matter what, it’s important to live this difficult and challenging life to the end. Don’t give up or be sad if you miss the bus in this life. The next bus will surely come."
A warm voice that helps restore self-esteem
We often face moments when we want to give up because life is tough. Especially in a fiercely competitive society, we may feel a sense of relative deprivation and inferiority when compared to those we perceive as superior, which can hurt our self-esteem.
As these experiences repeat, our self-esteem gradually decreases, and we may feel unstable and confused. Furthermore, in modern society, opportunities to deeply share personal feelings and communicate honestly have diminished, leaving us to bear loneliness and anxiety alone.
This book guides us on how to escape from this sense of isolation. It also provides a warm voice that soothes our wounds and helps restore our self-esteem.
Nine failures are nine beginnings
Poet Na Tae-joo states that realizing his own deficiencies and overcoming them was his life’s goal. He recalls a time when he was a nameless poet who faced frequent rejections from publishers. He even confessed to self-publishing his books at his own expense. There were times when he was not welcomed anywhere and experienced the pain of not being chosen by the women he loved.
However, he reflects that because of these experiences, he became a poet by writing poetry and eventually met his lifelong partner. Looking back, he emphasizes that there has never been a time in his life when any failure or experience was meaningless.
"If you’ve failed nine times, you’ve started nine times. So why hesitate to start the tenth time? Failing nine times means you’ve started nine times. This doesn’t mean you did better than someone who failed eight times, but at least it’s proof that you tried harder."
Never be discouraged, live happily and joyfully
This book contains the beautiful realizations that poet Na Tae-joo has gained throughout his life. It is also composed of personal stories he has confessed through numerous lectures and interviews, as well as touching stories of great figures he knows.
Quotations from figures such as Hermann Hesse, Zhuangzi, Alexander Pushkin, poet Cho Ji-hoon, philosopher Kim Tae-gil, and American psychologist Angela Duckworth are introduced, kindly explaining what we should learn from their words.
Additionally, there are episodes about the poet's father and grandmother, as well as fond memories of a person who worked as a janitor while he served as a principal.
"Even in things that seem insignificant or useless, great potential and value are hidden. Therefore, never be discouraged or lose heart."
The poet says that living a life that diligently nurtures small and ordinary daily moments is the most precious and beautiful. He emphasizes that we all have the right to be happy and that we must be happy. This is our duty, and he comforts and encourages us by saying that we are fully deserving of it.
