Description
Our body is a small universe.
The 8th story in the Ginibini picture book series, "War of the Stars Inside Our Body," begins with the phrase "BODY STAR WARS." While the term "Star Wars" is familiar, "Body Star Wars" may sound a bit unusual — much like how we often don't realize that an invisible war is happening right inside our own bodies. The Ginibini picture book series sparks curiosity with the worldview that "our body is a small universe" and the message that "there are stars inside our body, just like in the universe." The body is portrayed as a vast universe, and the cells within it are depicted as twinkling stars, drawing readers deeper into the story.
Making our immune system easy and fun to understand!
When an army of bad alien germs invades our healthy body, we get sick. But the good white blood cells inside our body fight off the bad germs and help us recover. "War of the Stars Inside Our Body" vividly describes the immune system, showing in detail how various types of white blood cells protect our bodies. Through an imaginative world, the book explains in detail how macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells, T cells, and B cells are formed. Macrophages and neutrophils are portrayed as soldiers who fight the alien germs directly; dendritic cells act as an intelligence unit that breaks down and studies the alien germs to gather information; and T cells and B cells are depicted as an army built based on that research to specifically combat the alien germs. In this way, the book playfully teaches children about the roles and abilities of white blood cells.
Children will not only learn about white blood cells but also grow their scientific imagination as they discover new facts. How do alien germs get into the body? Where are the weapons made to fight them? What efforts are needed to fight them more effectively? By exploring these questions with curiosity and imagination, children will naturally come to understand the meaning of the immune system. As children observe things, ask questions, and discover new facts, they build their scientific imagination — and in the process, they develop the strength to face and cope with challenges on their own.
By understanding how our bodies fight and win against outside viruses, children can gain confidence in their own strength and grow up wonderfully. Learning about the effectiveness and necessity of vaccines, introduced toward the end of the book, may even help children feel braver about getting their vaccinations. The book also teaches an important lesson: that eating well, going to the bathroom regularly, sleeping well, and washing up every day helps the white blood cells inside our bodies grow strong and protect us.
Author Lee So-eul, known for delivering the science we encounter in everyday life through fun and detailed artistic storytelling, has published "War of the Stars Inside Our Body," the 8th book in the Ginibini picture book series, with playful imagination that sparks curiosity about our bodies. "War of the Stars Inside Our Body" helps children gain a deeper understanding of what happens inside their own bodies, and instills in them, from the heart, the importance of treating themselves with kindness and taking good care of themselves.
