Description
A Lunar New Year story about Big-Handed Grandmother, who does everything in large amounts. As the Lunar New Year approaches, Big-Handed Grandmother prepares dumplings to feed even her friends in the forest until they're full. But there are so many ingredients that even after four days she still hasn't finished, so she uses up all the remaining filling to shape the biggest dumpling in the world. This picture book is steeped in the warm spirit of sharing among neighbors that has long been part of Korean culture. It features playful exaggerations, like a mixing bowl so big that both people and animals climb inside to mix the filling, and so much dumpling dough that it stretches not just through the house but over the hill beyond. Rather than making readers think 'oh, that could never happen' and push the story away, it draws them in even closer with its warmth and charm.
