The mysterious restaurant where eating strange dishes solves your worries has returned! The long-awaited sequel to The Dokkaebi Restaurant of Mysterious Tastes is finally here!
A Feast for the Senses
The greatest joy of The Dokkaebi Restaurant of Mysterious Tastes series lies in the extraordinary dishes that the restaurant's owner, Dohwarang, prepares for his guests. In this volume, dishes with names like 'the taste that duplicates what you want,' 'the taste that grows a tail,' 'the taste that erases memories,' and 'the taste that recovers what was lost' appear. Though their names sound bizarre, they are actually ordinary foods like seafood jjamppong, oxtail soup, tangpyeongchae, and salmon steak. But the moment Dohwarang pulls out his golden hairpin and sprinkles golden powder over the food, it transforms into a one-of-a-kind, extraordinary dish. This process—ordinary yet not quite ordinary—is depicted so vividly that it feels like it's unfolding right before your eyes, delighting children's eyes and ears alike. The story also builds thrilling suspense as readers wonder what role Dohwarang's cooking will play in solving the characters' problems, and what secret lies behind the golden hair he takes as payment.
The Courage and Growth of Characters Overcoming Hardship
At first glance, the characters in this book seem to have their worries solved thanks to Dohwarang's cooking. But in truth, Jiseok is able to become an idol singer because of his long, relentless practice, and Jeongtae's tail disappears because he found the courage to honestly admit and regret his wrongdoing. Jiyu, who worked hard hoping her friends who had drifted apart would get along again, and Sohee, who searched desperately every day for her cat Cherry, both have their worries resolved as a reward for their efforts. In this way, the real power behind solving the children's problems is their unwavering effort to overcome difficulties. Through this story, young readers will naturally learn just how important persistence and the courage to keep trying truly are.
Artwork That Brings the Story to Life
The artwork by illustrator Sengae continues to impress, featuring characters bursting with distinct personality, dynamic page compositions, and a refined color palette. The illustrations not only bring the story vividly to life but also create the delightful illusion that this strange and eerie goblin restaurant might really exist somewhere out there.
■ Story Summary
The Taste That Duplicates What You Want
Jiseok, a trainee at Miracle Entertainment, dreams of becoming an idol singer and practices tirelessly every day. But no matter how hard he tries, his dancing doesn't improve, and he keeps missing his chance to debut. Then one day, he happens upon the Dokkaebi Restaurant and eats 'the taste that duplicates what you want.' From that day on, an unbelievable transformation occurs—he goes from having two left feet to becoming a dancing machine. Drawing closer to his debut, Jiseok throws himself into practice even harder, and the day of the debut team selection test finally arrives. But that very morning, he badly injures his leg while saving a child from being hit by a car in an alley... Will Jiseok's dream of debuting as a singer be washed away?
The Taste That Grows a Tail
Jeongtae is such a troublemaker that even his teacher is at a loss—not just his classmates. One day, on his way home from school, he happens to stop by the Dokkaebi Restaurant and tries the oxtail soup. The next day, after teasing a friend, a monkey's tail suddenly grows from his backside. Jeongtae realizes with regret that this must be punishment for his cruel pranks, and decides to apologize to each of his friends one by one. Will Jeongtae be able to shed his monkey tail and return to normal?
The Taste That Erases Memories
The five members of 'Color Five,' once inseparable, split into two groups after a small quarrel. One of them, Jiyu, hopes her friends can go back to being close like before, but it proves harder than she thought. Then, by chance, Jiyu eats 'the taste that creates charm' at the Dokkaebi Restaurant and suddenly finds herself receiving all the attention and affection from her friends that she never had before. Using the 'Dokkaebi Restaurant extra pass' she received from Dohwarang, Jiyu returns to the restaurant with her friends, and together they eat 'the taste that erases memories.' The members of Color Five...
