Description There are many different kinds of families in this world. Here we meet six families, all bound together by the name 'love.' Though their forms differ slightly, each is a true family, holding and supporting one another through love and trust. There's Sujin's family at the orphanage, always full of energy with the director, Teacher Jina, and all the older and younger siblings; Seonye's family, who share the warmth of kinship with 'Brother' Juan, whom they met as a sponsor family; and Seojun's family, joined together by a love more precious than blood. Through each of these different families, readers can feel a warm and quiet kind of love. The author says she wanted to capture the shining moments of family life within this picture book — the moments that catch us unexpectedly in the midst of a hard and weary life; the moments we feel love in our hearts; the moments we feel happy simply for being together; the moments we realize we've comforted a family member's pain or sorrow; the overwhelming moments of realizing we've been accepted by our family; and the moments we recognize that we have someone beside us to share life with. Just hearing the word 'family' brings a sense of warmth. * Author's Note No family is happy all the time. Where there is laughter, there is also crying; where there is joy, there is also anger, sadness, pain, and loss. But even in the midst of hardship, there are always moments that shine. That is why families, 'even so,' continue to love one another and live on together. In this picture book, I wanted to portray those shining moments of family life — the moments that catch us unexpectedly amid a hard and weary life; the moments we feel love in our hearts; the moments we feel happy simply for being together; the moments we realize we've comforted a family member's pain or sorrow; the overwhelming moments of realizing we've been accepted by our family; the moments we recognize that we have someone beside us to share life with; the moments we suddenly realize that the people we've lived alongside all this time, without even knowing it, truly are our family; the moments we realize that even those we've never met and may never meet in this lifetime — yet who give us great strength — are also our family; and the quiet moments when, amid the dull passage of ordinary time, our eyes suddenly meet another's. I wanted to weave all of these moments together into one great family story. I wanted to give readers the gift of feeling, even for just a moment, that perhaps every living being in this world is part of our family — through an elegant and gentle sense of that fleeting instant, that fleeting feeling of vast and boundless love.
