Description

Every Monday... A story infused with the author's real experiences of suffering from severe 'Monday Blues.' There are people who feel a tightness in their chest starting Sunday night or Sunday afternoon. Just the thought that 'tomorrow is Monday' makes their heads throb, and they feel like doing nothing. When facing Monday with such suppressed feelings, nothing seems to go right, and they just wait for the workday to end, thinking about what 'reward' they will give themselves for enduring it. We call this symptom 'Monday Blues.' The author, Jo Yoon-joo, who wrote and illustrated , has also experienced severe Monday Blues. After struggling through Monday, she would give herself a 'reward' every Monday evening. However, she realized that 'just eating something she likes is not enough to overcome Monday Blues.' What do we need to face the burdensome Mondays? Both children and adults find Mondays challenging. aims to help discover a slightly different daily life. The front cover of depicts a typical Sunday evening scene in an ordinary neighborhood. There are moments when one is quietly handling tasks but is exhausted, times when one can do nothing and only sigh before Monday, and instances of spending warm moments with family. Turning the page reveals the bright Monday morning, where one must go to work or school, followed by scenes of returning home on Friday night. After a week passes and Sunday night arrives again, the story begins in earnest. Like many creative picture books, does not provide a solution to overcoming Monday Blues. Just as the symptoms of Monday Blues differ from person to person, so do the causes and solutions. However, this book sincerely asks those who feel suffocated before the recurring Monday, who barely endure a Monday when nothing goes right, "Is it okay to be just as you are right now?" It hopes to serve as a hint for a changed daily life. Jo Yoon-joo, an elementary school teacher and caregiver, has confirmed through years of experience that not only adults suffer from Monday Blues, but children also find Mondays difficult. Just as Mr. Sudol and Sudong in the picture book search for their own ways to escape Monday Blues, the author wishes that readers who see this book will feel a positive energy, and that this energy will lead to small changes in their daily lives.
