There are countless living creatures all around us. Just step outside, and you'll easily find beautiful flowers and green trees. Rivers and seas, too, are full of mysterious creatures whose names we may never fully know. Though some bugs may look unfamiliar or even frightening, they all share one thing in common: they are all alive and breathing.
This book tells the story of how to live alongside all living things. As Mr. Kim Hwang-yong points out, "We are not the only masters of this land!" — and true to this idea, the book beautifully shows how people and bugs can coexist.
The protagonist of this book is Yeon-su, the real-life daughter of author Kim Hwang-yong. As a child, Yeon-su suffered a severe burn that made it difficult for her to go outside freely, and it was for her that Mr. Kim wrote this fairy tale. Through this book, his heartfelt wish to teach his daughter the value of life and to express a father's love shines through clearly.
This book also serves as a guide for hands-on nature learning. While people typically bring collection jars or butterfly nets on such outings, Mr. Kim suggests there's no need to bring a net at all. He believes it is enough to simply observe how creatures live naturally, in their own way, and to hold onto the feeling of that moment in your heart.
The book is also richly filled with stories about various plants and insects, as well as information about agriculture. Throughout its pages, Mr. Kim's hope shines through — that children might come to understand the appearance and habits of bugs more easily through this heartfelt fairy tale.
