Description Book Introduction African Children Who Dream of School According to UNICEF, one in three children living in Sub-Saharan Africa does not receive a formal elementary education. What's more, even those lucky enough to be enrolled in elementary school often end up dropping out before finishing, which gives us a glimpse into just how difficult the educational reality is for children in Africa. This book tells the story of children in Chad, Africa, who continue to dream of learning even as they struggle with severe poverty and hunger. The children of Chad, who remain hopeful and unshaken in the face of hardship, invite us to reflect not only on the sobering reality of education in Africa, but also on the attitude we bring to facing adversity ourselves. Written in a realistic and understated style, and paired with illustrations full of the vibrant, healthy energy unique to children, this book tells a story about Africa that could easily feel heavy, but instead comes through light and full of warmth.
